A fluttering of congratulations

Hi everyone!

Happy Friday! What are your plans for the weekend? I’m going to see a Podcast live on Sunday, the hosts are coming over from America and I’m getting stupidly excited about seeing them!

To add to the excitement of this week, the lady I’m secretary to in my day job has been successful in gaining a permanent contract. I’m so pleased for her, and it means I get to keep her yay! I wanted to make her a nice card to say congratulations in a more special way than via an email, so I decided to play with some new toys and new colours. I also mixed in some retiring favourites.

I’m sure we’re all guilty of purchasing something and then not using it, and I have to admit I did that with the “in this world” stamp set. I fell in love with the butterfly image and then never got round to using it, until now!

I am going to miss the butterfly framelits but how pretty is the new one? I can see this getting a lot of use!

I’m not sure what look I was going for with this card, but it turned out alright! Sometimes you just have to run away with an idea and see what happens!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Magical, Harry Potter themed Birthday!

Hi everyone!

This weekend has been a bank holiday in the UK and we have been spoilt with incredible weather! I’ll share more later on in the post.

Today’s card is one I made for a friend who loves Harry Potter. As I was running late in making it I decided to use the wizard from the Magical Day stamp set (again, I know!) as a “Dumbledore” and, having found out my friends ‘house’, I used the ‘Ravenclaw’ colours

I decided the twist some mini gold sequin trim and some new mini cord to finish the card off.

I am going to miss the gold flakes, they just add a little amount of sparkle to the card in addition to some sweeps of Wink of Stella.

If I’d had more time I think I’d have gone further into a Harry Potter theme, maybe making some Harry, Ron, and Hermione characters and making a Hogwarts. Watch this space as it may still happen one day!

Back to this weekend, my boyfriend and I took the opportunity to tidy up the garden, we actually found our pond again! With the pond we discovered that we have 5 frogs living there which is pretty amazing.

Excuse the colour of the water, there was a lot of mud and overgrown plants in there!

Yesterday we took his children to an ice cream place and then to a garden centre (complete with children’s park so they weren’t bored!) and we had a wonderful time just exploring new places and finding plants to put in the garden.

I’m also on a mission to lose 70lbs by next April so we went for a walk today which turned into a hike where we had to climb up the mountain on all fours in parts! Was totally worth it for the view, and the pub at the end!

I hope you enjoyed the card today, and a little insight into my life!

Thanks for stopping by!

InspirINK Blog Hop – April 2018

Hi everyone!

Thanks for stopping by for another InspirINK blog hop. This month’s theme was picked by the fabulous Hannah McCurley.

I was inspired to make this card by one of the new annual catalogue hostess stamps called “Hand Delivered”. I adore this stamp set because it is completely me and my preferred style of crafting. I have more designs using this set coming up!

I decided to use some of the “Memories & More” Petal Passion Card Pack as the quotes are perfect for weddings. The background is created from one of the “Memories & More” card packs again. It’s amazing how versatile they are.

I coloured the image using a mixture of Stampin’ Blends and the Stampin’ Write Markers with a blender pen.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my project this month, click the “next” button to keep going round the hop!

Magical day with Unicorns!

Hi everyone

I’ve had a nice couple of weeks off work and now coming back to reality with a bump! It was so nice to have some time off to relax and spend time with family and friends. I went to a few National Trust sites (historical buildings/garden for non-UK readers!), had afternoon tea, celebrated some birthdays, and went Mountain Biking for the first time with my Springer Spaniel, who loved the freedom and the speed! I also managed to get some gardening and crafting done.

As promised I’m bringing you another unicorn today. Once I got started with them I couldn’t stop! I’m addicted to the bright colours and fun theme.

For this one I wanted to make something a little different so decided to create a stitched pocket for the sentiment, and who doesn’t love a bit of bling!

Yellow and orange are not colours I tend to go automatically for when I’m crafting, so I have had to step out of my comfort zone slightly.  I’m loving the new ‘in colour’ that’s used on this card, Pineapple Punch, isn’t it beautiful?! The new ink pads are so nice to stamp with, no more inky fingers opening them!

My Christmas challenge

Yes I’m using the dirty word! At New Year I challenged myself to make a Christmas card a week so that I’m not panicking when the festivities roll around.  As expected I’m failing miserably at this! So I thought I’d mention it here so I have to be accountable and prove I’ve made this week’s card.  So far I’m 17 cards behind (ONLY!) so watch this space for progress updates! Why not join me and share your creations with me on my Facebook or Instagram page #samscraftythings

Magical Unicorns!

Hi everyone!

Today I’m sharing a card using my FAVOURITE stamp set (which is retiring…boo!!), in fact I have a few more to share with you over forthcoming blog posts! 🙂

Anyone who knows me will know how obsessed I am with unicorns, so this stamp was the obvious choice for me when I was wanting to make a few cards ready to send out to friends and family. I decided to play about with the Stampin’ Up! Watercolour Pencils and created the mane by using Melon Mambo, Night of Navy, and Bermuda Bay. I the created the shading with Basic Grey (although slightly overdid it!).

The background was created by sponging Melon Mambo on to the card stock, ensuring that I started on a piece of grip paper first to remove any dark ink blotches. I then gradually extended the colour further up the card until I was happy with the end result.

The ‘One of a Kind’ colour was created using the Stampin’ Up! Stampin’ Write Markers, by starting with the lightest colour and then quickly scribbling over with the two darker colours.

I hope you like today’s card.
