Rainbow Wreath

Hi everyone!

Those who follow me on Social Media will be aware that I’ve been struggling with inspiration of late, hence the lack of posting! Yesterday I stumbled across a polystyrene wreath that has been lying around my craft room for….oooo….about 9 years! (That is worrying!) I decided that stepping away from cards and doing something else might give me the inspiration I need.

I decided to create something with a rainbow theme and I wanted to mix a bit of the retiring product, with the new.

I wrapped the wreath with the 2017-2019 in colour finely woven ribbons and some burlap.  To create the hanging ribbon, I stitched two ribbon lengths together and then attached the ends so that it could loop back on itself to hang.

I then used the retiring ‘Bold Butterfly’ and ‘Butterflies’ framelits, and the new ‘Springtime Impressions’ framelits, and cut images from different colours of card stock.

I worked my way around the wreath adding varying colours to ensure that the transitions between the colours was subtle.

I hope you enjoyed this project.

Thanks for stopping by!

A fluttering of congratulations

Hi everyone!

Happy Friday! What are your plans for the weekend? I’m going to see a Podcast live on Sunday, the hosts are coming over from America and I’m getting stupidly excited about seeing them!

To add to the excitement of this week, the lady I’m secretary to in my day job has been successful in gaining a permanent contract. I’m so pleased for her, and it means I get to keep her yay! I wanted to make her a nice card to say congratulations in a more special way than via an email, so I decided to play with some new toys and new colours. I also mixed in some retiring favourites.

I’m sure we’re all guilty of purchasing something and then not using it, and I have to admit I did that with the “in this world” stamp set. I fell in love with the butterfly image and then never got round to using it, until now!

I am going to miss the butterfly framelits but how pretty is the new one? I can see this getting a lot of use!

I’m not sure what look I was going for with this card, but it turned out alright! Sometimes you just have to run away with an idea and see what happens!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Stampin’ Up! Friendly Rainbow Unicorn!

Hi everyone!

I hope your weeks are going well? We have a long weekend coming up for May Day and I cannot wait to have the extra crafting day!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I am going to miss Magical Day stamp set sooooo much! It will be staying on my shelf though for my non-blog projects 😉

Today’s card was made for one of my oldest friends whose birthday was last week.  I hadn’t thought of using straws with crafting until I saw Sara Douglass, Stampin’ Up! CEO, demonstrate with one at the On Stage event last month.  I obviously had to try as soon as I got home!
img_1912

The background was achieved using ‘Melon Mambo’ and ‘Rich Razzleberry’ ink dropped onto wet watercolour paper with an aqua painter, and I then blew the ink around with a straw.  I also added in some ‘Pool Party’ to add a bit of contrast.

The unicorn image was coloured with Stampin’ Blends.  I wanted to make it more ‘magical’ and so added some ‘Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter’ to the body.

My favourite part of the card has to be the rainbow effect on the wording.  I can see me using this A LOT! This was done using the watercolour pencils on watercolour paper and then going over each colour with an aqua painter, making sure that the colours didn’t blend too much so that they went ‘muddy’.

I’m struggling to craft this week so falling further behind with me Christmas Card pac that I told you about last week! I’m hoping that by the weekend my mojo will return and I’ll be whizzing those cards out!

I hope the rest of the week is kind to you! Thanks for stopping by.

InspirINK Blog Hop – April 2018

Hi everyone!

Thanks for stopping by for another InspirINK blog hop. This month’s theme was picked by the fabulous Hannah McCurley.

I was inspired to make this card by one of the new annual catalogue hostess stamps called “Hand Delivered”. I adore this stamp set because it is completely me and my preferred style of crafting. I have more designs using this set coming up!

I decided to use some of the “Memories & More” Petal Passion Card Pack as the quotes are perfect for weddings. The background is created from one of the “Memories & More” card packs again. It’s amazing how versatile they are.

I coloured the image using a mixture of Stampin’ Blends and the Stampin’ Write Markers with a blender pen.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my project this month, click the “next” button to keep going round the hop!

Magical day with Unicorns!

Hi everyone

I’ve had a nice couple of weeks off work and now coming back to reality with a bump! It was so nice to have some time off to relax and spend time with family and friends. I went to a few National Trust sites (historical buildings/garden for non-UK readers!), had afternoon tea, celebrated some birthdays, and went Mountain Biking for the first time with my Springer Spaniel, who loved the freedom and the speed! I also managed to get some gardening and crafting done.

As promised I’m bringing you another unicorn today. Once I got started with them I couldn’t stop! I’m addicted to the bright colours and fun theme.

For this one I wanted to make something a little different so decided to create a stitched pocket for the sentiment, and who doesn’t love a bit of bling!

Yellow and orange are not colours I tend to go automatically for when I’m crafting, so I have had to step out of my comfort zone slightly.  I’m loving the new ‘in colour’ that’s used on this card, Pineapple Punch, isn’t it beautiful?! The new ink pads are so nice to stamp with, no more inky fingers opening them!

My Christmas challenge

Yes I’m using the dirty word! At New Year I challenged myself to make a Christmas card a week so that I’m not panicking when the festivities roll around.  As expected I’m failing miserably at this! So I thought I’d mention it here so I have to be accountable and prove I’ve made this week’s card.  So far I’m 17 cards behind (ONLY!) so watch this space for progress updates! Why not join me and share your creations with me on my Facebook or Instagram page #samscraftythings
